Prepare product photos for Amazon listings
Amazon’s main-image rules are specific, and two of them are commonly missed.
The background is a number
The main-image rule is literally RGB(255,255,255). A photograph that looks white to you very likely measures 250 or 248 at the corners. PrepShot composites onto true white and verifies the finished file.
The product should fill about 85%
Amazon’s guidance asks the product to fill roughly 85% of the frame. PrepShot finds the product, crops to it and scales it to that, then reports the figure it achieved.
No watermarks on the main image
Text, logos, borders and watermarks are prohibited on the main image. Supporting images may carry them. PrepShot blocks the combination rather than warning about it.
Resolution enables zoom
Above a certain longest edge, Amazon turns on zoom: the feature shoppers use to decide whether the stitching looks right. An image can clear the minimum, miss the zoom threshold, and publish without complaint.
Requirements change, check the date
Marketplace image requirements move, and any article listing exact figures is accurate on the day it was written and decaying from then on. PrepShot’s presets each record the date a human last checked them against the platform’s own documentation, and link to the page they came from, so you can see how stale a value is instead of assuming.
